The 450-store mega-mall and entertainment complex — indoor ski slope, water park, aquarium, mini golf, the works. Retail opens 11 (attractions from 10, with their own tickets), so it's a late-morning-onward destination, not an early one. Free to walk in and wander once it's open; a genuine all-weather backup when the morning runs long.

East Rutherford wraps around the Meadowlands and American Dream complex, so this is a radius, not a town line. The nicest playgrounds (Walls Field, Kidspot) are five minutes over in Rutherford.
